Basic Attention Token (BAT) labels itself as a token that radically improves the efficiency of digital advertising by creating a new token that can be exchanged between publishers, advertisers, and users.

Their method of ad delivery is the Brave browser. The BAT advertising ecosystem works like this:

How BAT works
How BAT works

Cryptocurrency Competitors

BAT has no current competitors when it comes to cryptocurrency coins. BAT is unique in that it is the only cryptocurrency that aims to take on traditional advertising networks online while focusing on privacy.

Traditional Advertising Competitors

While no competitors exist directly on the blockchain, BAT faces fierce competition from traditional online advertisers who do not focus on privacy. Traditional advertisers have a larger market and more tools to target individuals, putting BAT at a severe disadvantage out the gate.

Google

Google is the king of online advertising. They have the largest audience, the most sophisticated ad technology and can data mine across their various products.

Microsoft

Like Google, Microsoft has the technology and data mining to target users efficiently, letting advertisers get to the audience they need.

Other Online Ad Networks

While there are far too many to list here, major player examples include AdThrive, Mediavine and Ezoic. These networks rely heavily on 3rd party cookies, which will soon become a thing of the past as browsers start blocking them by default. This potentially could aide BAT, as more companies seek other ways to target users.
